We design and build software for research, privacy and decision‑making — and we build it to an engineering standard that is written down, applied to every project, and checked before anything is called finished.
What we do
A small company that builds carefully, on purpose
Research & Digital Development Pty Ltd is an Australian proprietary limited company, incorporated in 2017 and based in Victoria. We build our own software products, and we take on selected client work.
Our work concentrates in three areas: turning unstructured research material into something a person can act on, handling sensitive material so that the people it belongs to keep control of it, and helping groups reach decisions they can stand behind. Those are different problems, but they share one property — they are all easy to build badly and hard to build honestly.
How we operate
The standard is written down, not improvised per project
Three commitments hold across everything we build. They are not aspirations; they are conditions a piece of work has to meet before it ships.
A written engineering standard
Every project follows the same documented rules, with an explicit definition of what "finished" means: the checks pass, the behaviour has been verified against the real system, and the work and its reasoning are recorded. A change that skips any of those is not finished.
Artificial intelligence, with the human accountable
We build with AI assistance and we say so plainly. What makes that engineering rather than guesswork is the discipline around it: small reviewable changes, a human answerable for every one of them, and a trail that explains why each decision was made.
Privacy designed in, not added later
Personal data stays in Australia unless there is a documented reason to move it. We collect the minimum a feature needs, record the lawful basis at the point of collection, and design deletion into the data model from the first migration rather than bolting it on.
What we build
Two halves, and the company is named after both
Development is what we are building and maintaining now. Research is what we are still thinking through. We keep the distinction visible because a concept presented as a product helps nobody.
